Dave Bisceglia from Founder Collective joins The Lantern

Welcome Dave Bisceglia, Venture Partner at Founder Collective on this episode of 🔥 The Lantern 🔥

Founder Collective is an early-stage venture firm backing exceptional founders from Pre-Seed through Seed, as a generalist investor across categories from defense tech (Shield AI) to consumer (Uber, Suno, Smalls).

🔍 What happened in 2025? 🔎

The firm made 25+ investments across Boston, New York, the West Coast, and internationally in Canada, Israel, and South Africa.

Founding Partner Eric Paley was appointed to be the Secretary of Economic Development for Massachusetts. Founder Collective misses him dearly but the state now has a founder-first leader who understands what it takes to build!

🗺️ Where is Founder Collective headed in 2026? 🗺️

They’re continuing to back great founders, support their existing portfolio companies, and invest more deeply in community. FC hosted 50+ events for founders across Boston and NYC in 2025 and they’re doubling down this year.

🤔 What has Dave learned from making the transition to early stage investor? 🤔

First, don’t chase valuations at the early stage.

Raising too much, too early sets outsized expectations for your next round and limits your optionality. Practice capital efficiency from day one. It gives you flexibility to pivot, adjust, or walk away if you don’t find product-market fit.

Second, the “Founder’s edge” matters more than the initial idea.

Their top performers pivoted multiple times after investment. What remained constant? The founder’s hard-earned insight, unique perspective, or go-to-market advantage. Know your edge as a founding team before you raise Seed capital.

🤝 How can we help Founder Collective grow? 🤝

If Boston grows, FC grows.
